It seems he was a 'Home Child'. Aged 14 (he would actually have been 15). He is listed as Edd with the 2nd "d" raised. I think the record indicates that he was destined for the National Childrens Home (charity) in Hamilton, Ontario 42 miles from Toronto. Albert George Shardalow also went to that Home in the same year and also crossed the atlantic in April. In 1873 the charity set up an emigration scheme and the home in Hamilton. The charity had been set up by Methodist Minister Thomas Bowman Stephenson - I think his name is on the passenger list as the Reverend accompanying the children across the atlantic.
