    • Census: 1871, Hemsby, Norfolk, UK; 1871 Census: Annie and John staying with grandfather and 3 aunts, visiting from Thorpe. Hemsby is 17 miles north of Thorpe next Haddiscoe.
    • Departure: 20 Apr 1882 - 14 May 1882, Liverpool to Quebec; Sailed on the Dominion Line SS Mississippi. Apparently under the custody of a Reverend and with many young boys. It seems he was a 'Home Child'. Aged 14 (he would actually have been 15). He is listed as Edd with the 2nd "d" raised. I think the record indicates that he was destined for the National Childrens Home (charity) in Hamilton, Ontario 42 miles from Toronto. Albert George Shardalow also went to that Home in the same year and also crossed the atlantic in April. In 1873 the charity set up an emigration scheme and the home in Hamilton. The charity had been set up by Methodist Minister Thomas Bowman Stephenson - I think his name is on the passenger list as the Reverend accompanying the children across the atlantic.
