- A little doubt about whether the George Shard(e)low that Sarah married was the son of Samuel Atcheson Shardelow and Phoebe Wiseman. The 1841 Census has a Sarah Peggs, with father Bartholomew (as stated in her marriage record) in Norfolk but it says she was 9 which would have meant she was just 15 at the time of her marriage in Newcastle. George and his mum Phoebe were spelt Shardlow in 1842 Census - same in marriage record. The 1851 Census finds the Peggs family still in Norfolk but no Sarah. The 1851 Census has a Sarah Shardlow in South Shields, born in Yarmouth, Norfolk and widowed aged 24 years old with son George aged 2 - that would mean she would have been 20 years old when she married. Her marriage record says her father's name was Samuel. I would say I am 90% sure she married George son of Samuel Atcheson Shardelow.
