Shoreditch Poor Law Removal and Settlement Records. Documents how Keziah met John Gooch, a Justice of the Peace, at the Hart Inn, Thurlton in the spring of 1832 and had an affair with him (‘connection’) meeting 6 times. He was from Woodton, Norfolk and was about 52 then; he was married of fair complexion and ‘stout’. She was introduced to him by Mrs Slavery keeper of the inn. She became pregnant. He asked her to move to London and he would provide funds. He gave her £5. She moved to London in May 1833. He then sent £5 twice more an some game. On 13 July 1833 she gave birth to a son in her brother Drake’s house, 8 Mary Anns Place, Finsbury Market (NE corner of Finsbury Market). Presumably to confirm John Gooch was the father she admitted have a ‘connection’ on March 1831 with Edward Chandler, a young whitesmith from Tofts near Haddiscoe, but only once. |
